Privacy Policy

The short version

PeekNote is built to keep your work on your Mac. Screenshots, Boards and notebooks are stored locally and never leave your device unless you turn on Sync. You can use PeekNote without an account. We don't sell personal information, we don't show ads, and we don't use your content to train AI models.

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers. Its fonts are served from the same place as the site.

What this policy covers

This policy applies to:

this website;
the PeekNote apps for Mac and iPad (the "App"); and
the optional PeekNote account and Sync service (the "Service").

It doesn't cover third-party tools you choose to connect PeekNote to, such as coding agents. Those are described in "Coding agents and other tools" below.

What stays on your device

When you use the App, your screenshots, annotations, Boards, notebooks and settings are stored in your user library on your device. PeekNote captures your screen only when you start a capture yourself, and it only saves the region you select.

Sending a screenshot or Board to a coding agent happens on your device: PeekNote writes the exported image to a local cache folder (removed after about a week) and opens the agent you chose. PeekNote does not upload that export.

Information we collect

When you visit this website. We don't set cookies or run analytics. Like any website, our hosting provider, Vercel, automatically receives standard request information (such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Vercel keeps these logs only for a limited time, under its own privacy policy.

When you use the App without an account. We don't receive anything. The App works entirely offline.

When you create an account. We collect your email address, a display name, and your password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and an account identifier from that provider. To show you which devices are signed in, we keep a random installation identifier for each device, its name and when it was last active.

When you turn on Sync. We store the Boards and notebooks you sync, the images inside them, and up to 20 earlier versions of each so you can restore them. Screenshots are uploaded only if you separately turn on Screenshot sync. Synced documents are private to your account but are not end-to-end encrypted.

When you contact us. We keep the emails you send us and our replies so we can help you.

How we use information

We use the information above to:

provide, secure and maintain your account and Sync;
apply plan limits and any Pro entitlement on your account;
respond to support requests;
detect and prevent abuse; and
meet legal obligations.

We don't sell or rent personal information, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't use your screenshots, Boards or notes to train machine learning models.

Coding agents and other tools

When you send to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, PeekNote starts that tool on your device and gives it the exported image, your instruction and your chosen project folder. What happens next is up to that tool and its provider, whose own terms and privacy policies apply. PeekNote has no access to your conversations with those tools.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run the Service:

Supabase, Inc. for authentication, database and file storage, hosted in the United States (US East, N. Virginia);
Stripe, Inc. to process Pro subscriptions bought in the version of PeekNote downloaded from this website. We share your email address and account ID with Stripe, and Stripe collects your payment details on its own checkout page, so we never see your card number;
Apple, through the App Store, to process Pro subscriptions bought in the Mac App Store edition. Apple handles the payment and tells us the subscription's status and transaction ID;
Google and Apple, only if you choose to sign in with them; and
Vercel Inc. to serve this website.

They process information only on our instructions and under data protection terms.

How long we keep information

We keep account information and synced documents for as long as your account is active. Turning off Sync or signing out never deletes anything. If you delete your account, we delete your account information and synced documents within 30 days, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation. Documents stay on your devices.

Your choices and rights

You can use PeekNote without an account, keep Sync off, and turn Screenshot sync off at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email hello@peeknote.xyz. We'll answer within the time the law requires, and we won't treat you differently for asking.

If you're in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

Connections between the App and the Service are encrypted in transit. Your session is stored in your device's Keychain, and database rules ensure each account can reach only its own documents. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Children

PeekNote isn't directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

International transfers

If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or wherever our providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date above and, when the change affects account holders, tell you in the App or by email before it takes effect.
